The Setting
This story, although some of it takes part in New York, mainly takes place in the Labyrinth. The story begins in an orientation for his new school, but he soon finds himself back at Camp Half-Blood. Later the heroes find an entrance to the Labyrinth. While this story doesn't give a specific time, you can infer that it takes place close to the present, as their are phones, TVs, and iPods.
The characters find themselves coming in and out of the dark abyss, sometimes in New York, but mostly in other areas across the U.S. The Labyrinth, however, is never a predictable area. You never know where you are unless you find an exit to the light. Unfortunately, the story rarely gives the reader a set area in which the story takes place, because the Labyrinth grows throughout the entire United States. For example, they start in New York, and in about two to three days, they were in Colorado!
Although this book will quickly change from one area to another, it does keep a good job of transitioning the readers mind from the dank and dirty maze to the sunny, grassy fields of Colorado, and that's only one place this roller coaster ride of a story will take your imagination to! The reader must have a quick brain to process each and every turn the story will throw at you! The setting of the story just adds on to how mystifying the book really is.
