The Battle of the Labyrinth always stays true to one main plot throughout the entire story. In the beginning, Percy finds himself going to another school orientation. His director is his mother's new boyfriend, a mortal named Paul Blofis. He has no idea who Percy really is and that his mother's real husband is Poseidon. Percy and his mom must keep this a secret to him. Percy was in a good mood, because his friend, Annabeth, was going to go with him to the movies after the orientation. Percy was excited to get away from all the monster fighting and quest. When Percy went to the orientation, he spotted a girl he had bumped into on his last adventure, Rachel Elizabeth Dare. He did his best to avoid her, and he ran into two cheerleaders, named Kelli and Tammi. They heard his name and said they had been expecting him. Then Percy knew something was wrong. He instinctively put his hand in his pocket, where his pen/magical sword Riptide was. However, Paul came to help Percy get settled in. Percy had to keep an eye on those cheerleaders, because if they're monsters, they could take out the entire city.
Percy found himself in a crowded gym, and Rachel happened to find him. Just then the two cheerleaders started explaining the orientation. Rachel looked horrified and she told Percy to run. They hid in the band room while Percy explained to Rachel that Greek gods were real and the had the special ability to see through the Mist. All of a sudden, Kelli was blocking the door, while Tammi walked towards them. Percy pulled out his sword and attacked Tammi, who had changed into a vampire-like creature, with a donkey hoof for one leg, and a bronze leg for the other. She and her friend are called empousa. Percy was about to take out Kelli, but Paul came in the room. Percy couldn't stop the sword, and while she was doing a fake scream of terror, she exploded to flames before the sword hit her. Percy ran out of the school and found Annabeth walking down the sidewalk. Percy had explained Rachel and her ability, and how he told her the truth. Annabeth was steamed! She said the movie was not going to happen and they had to get to camp.
When they got there, Annabeth left to talk to Clarisse, the daughter of Ares, god of war. Percy went to the arena and found a giant hellhound. He charged at it, but another sword blocked his path. It was the sword of the camp's new substitute director Quintus, who was taking place for their real director Dionysus, the god of wine. He said the dog's name was Mrs. O'Leary, and that she was harmless. Then Chiron came in to tell Percy he was needed. While they were walking, Percy explained to him about the fight. Chiron said Kelli was not dead. They were in the woods where Grover was being chewed out for not finding Pan. They gave one more week, or his searcher's license would be taken away. The next day, Quintus gave the campers a war game. They must kill giant, deadly scorpions. While it was happening, Percy fell into a hole that led to a long corridor. When he got out, he realized that it was the Labyrinth. Chiron told Percy, Grover, and Annabeth to go on a quest to find Daedalus and find a way to navigate the Labyrinth before Kronos's army does. Tyson also wanted to help out, so he went along. Grover felt that Pan might be down in the Labyrinth because that is the only place satyrs wouldn't go.
While they were down in the Labyrinth, a two-faced man named Janus, the God of doorways and choices, told Annabeth she must make a difficult choice. Hera, the Goddess of marriage, scolded Janus for being too sudden. She granted Annabeth one wish to help her on her quest. Annabeth told her she wanted to find a way to navigate the Labyrinth. However, she told them that Percy already had the ability to navigate the Labyrinth. She then told them to find a Hephaestus, the God of the forge. Then she left. While they were trying to find Hephaestus, they came across a magical farm owned by a three-bodied person named Geyron. They found their acquaintance Nico Di Angelo, the son of Hades. They stayed there for the night to get some rest, and in the morning, Percy found his friends tied up over a boiling pot. Geyron told them they were breakfast! Percy tried to fight him, but every slash he made it instantly healed. He realized he had to attack all three bodies at once, and he shot an arrow through all three of them. They stole some food and left again, and they went to Hephaestus' forge.
They found themselves in the lair of the sphinx. They had to pass a test of riddles or else the monster would attack and kill them. Annabeth thought she knew the ancient riddles, but the sphinx said that she had raised her standards. Annabeth refused to do the new riddles and she attacked the sphinx. She could not kill the sphinx, however, so they had to run. They finally got to the forge of Hephaestus in an enormous room, and a mechanical spider met them at the entrance. Hephaestus followed. Annabeth asked Hephaestus if he could help them find Daedalus. He tried to help by making the mechanical spider show them the way, but it got destroyed later in the Labyrinth. Percy met a few monsters that threw lava at him. Percy should have burned up, but being the son of Poseidon, he burned slower.
Percy woke up on a tropical island. He walked down to the beach and found a girl named Calypso standing at the beach. She explained to him how she was imprisoned there for being the daughter of a Titan and the Fates dropped off heroes whom she couldn't help but fall in love with. But they always had to leave for their quests. Percy left and found himself at camp again. But it was quiet. He went into the woods and found a funeral being held for him because they thought that he was dead. When he walked in, everyone was surprised that he was there and Annabeth smacked him in the face. The next day when she calmed down, they went to Chiron to ask him what they should do next. He asked Percy again what the clue was that Hera had given for him knowing how to go through the Labyrinth. He realized that Rachel was the key because she could see through the Mist. They found Rachel at her home and took her to find another entrance to the Labyrinth. When they did, she led them through the maze telling them to watch out for traps and things like that. When they made it, their final trial was to go against a monster born by the ancient spirit of earth, Gaia. As Percy fought him, every time he made an injury, it would instantly be healed. The monster said he was one with the earth. Percy realized the monster would be healed as long as he was touching the ground because he was born from Gaia. So Percy jumped up on chains in the air and the monster soon followed. Percy stabbed and cut until the monster disappeared.
They found Pan in a little alcove. He told Grover he was a brave and persistent satyr to find him. He said he had to carry on, and he gave Grover the power of the Wild. Before he disappeared, he told Grover to tell all believers in the Wild to know that he was gone. Pan then faded away. When they reached the workshop of Daedalus, they only found Quintus. Quintus told them he was Daedalus with his fifth automaton body. Then, Kronos's army broke in and a fight soon began. Mrs. O'Leary joined the fight and Quintus told them that he would handle it. So Percy and his friends used once of Daedalus's most famous inventions, the wax wings. They flew out of the tower that they were held in and landed near Camp Half-Blood. Just then Kronos's army broke through the entrance of the Labyrinth in Camp Half-Blood and a battle began. Once the war ended, Percy realized that there were many casualties, and some Half-Bloods died. But this was only the beginning of the end war that would soon be coming to the world.
